Description: This layer depicts areas designated as Landslide Hazard and Erosion Hazard (see Chapter 4 of Critical Areas Code). It is advisory and subject to verification in the field. The Critical Areas Ordinance defines Landslide hazard both as landforms (bluffs and ravines), and applying slope and soil criteria. The original data set was created from 1:24,000 USGS topography (40’-50’ contours), Clallam County Soil Survey, and Coastal Zone Atlas by county staff in 1996. Partial Landslide re-mapping in areas of LiDAR coverage was done (December 2010 through January 2011).The 2011 update more accurately reflects the landform-based landslide hazard in areas with LiDAR coverage. However, it inherits the original shapes for most slope/soil based hazard areas, and areas with no LiDAR coverage, pending more sophisticated slope analysis and policy decisions. The 2011 update was done by visual inspection of contours, hillshade, and a derived slope layer (65% and above), all from LiDAR, as well as aerial photos. The focus was on marine bluffs, as well as bluffs and ravines along major stream systems, particularly those included in the Shoreline Master Program update process.

Description: Critical Aquifer Recharge Area in Clallam County. Per Clallam County Code 27.1.600 the intent is to:(1) provide water quality protection associated with aquifer recharge areas through the regulation of land use activities that pose a potential contaminant threat or could increase the vulnerability of the aquifer. (2) Identify, preserve and protect aquifer recharge areas and prevent degradation of the quality of potable ground water.(3) Recognize the relationship between surface and ground water resources.
Description: The Washington State Shoreline Management Act (SMA) and administrative codes require that communities identify the general location of channel migration zones (CMZs) and regulate development within these areas on shoreline streams (WAC 173-26-201(3) (c) (vii)). Shoreline streams are defined as those with a mean annual flow equal or greater than 20 cfs. The Washington Department of Ecology (Ecology) developed a planning-level CMZ delineation (pCMZ) method to support local communities’ updates and implementation of the SMA requirements. The method was used by Ecology to map CMZs for shoreline communities.

The purpose of this zone is to allow opportunities for limited aviation land uses on airport associated properties that are consistent with the character of existing airport uses and that minimize impacts to adjacent lands outside the overlay district.Airport Development (Zone 3). The purpose of this zone is to allow for aviation-related land uses and limited, nonaviation uses that are compatible with airport operations and character on airport property. Lands within this zone are already characterized by airport development such as aircraft maintenance and servicing, aircraft hangers, fueling facilities, taxiways, and aircraft tiedown areas.Aviation Related Residential (Zone 4). The purpose of this zone is to allow opportunities for aviation-related single-family residential development compatible with airport operations and consistent with the standards of the underlying agriculture retention zone on property connected with the airport.Extended Runway Centerline Protection (Zone 5). The purpose of this zone is to promote compatible land uses in areas in close proximity to aircraft landing and take-off patterns, and to retain open lands along the extended runway centerline in case of need for emergency landing.Airport Influence Area (Zone 6). The Airport Influence Area (Map 33.08.020 (1a)) covers Airport Land Use Compatibility Overlay Zones 1 through 6 and approximates the area subject to the regular or potential traffic pattern of the airport. The purpose of this zone is to inform current, future, and prospective residents, businesses, and landowners of potential increased noise levels, vibration, fumes, smell, low-flying aircraft, and other aviation related disturbances, and to avoid uses that may create potential hazards to aircraft in flight.
